Food Lion Running Private Brands Holiday Bakeoff

Food Lion is running a Private Brands Holiday Bakeoff from Nov. 17 through Dec. 14. Entrants are tasked with using at least one of their favorite Food Lion private brand food products to create a holiday recipe.

The entry category changes weekly, with holiday cookies slated for week one, holiday pies for week two, holiday cakes and breads for week three, and holiday appetizers for week four. Two winners will be selected from each week’s entries, said Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion, a division of the Brussels-based retail conglomerate Delhaize Group. Each winner receives a $500 Food Lion gift card and an assortment of Food Lion Home 360 baking products.

According to Food Lion, Universal Promotions Inc. (UPI) would randomly draw 50 recipe entries per weekly sweepstakes entry period. These recipes will be judged by a panel of experts selected at the sole discretion of UPI, based on use of and the number of Food Lion private brand products in the recipe (1-25 points), creativity of recipe (1-25 points), ease of preparation (1-25 points) and clear directions (1-25 points). The top-scoring recipes — approximately 10 — then will be prepared and judged according to creativity of the recipe (1-20 points); taste/flavor (1-30 points); convenience and ease of preparation (1-30 points) and visual appeal (1-20 points).
