Marsh Helps 'Hoosiers Fight Hunger' With Sen. Lugar

Marsh Supermarkets this week will kick off a month-long partnership with Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) to fight hunger in Indiana that will invite customers who visit any Marsh Indiana location to purchase a $3, $5 or $10 bag of groceries for the food donation bin. Register receipts will note customer food donations, providing a receipt for tax purposes. All food will be delivered to local food banks to be distributed to those in need during National Hunger Action Month.

Lugar’s esteemed career has included his longtime commitment to hunger relief initiatives,” said Frank Lazaran, Marsh Supermarkets’ chairman, CEO and president. “Since our first store opened in Muncie in 1931, Marsh Supermarkets … has had a corporate commitment to giving back to the communities where we live and work.”

Last year, Lazaran continued, the 97-store, Indianapolis-based grocer’s customers and associates “overwhelmed us with their generosity, and we look forward to another successful food collection effort to help alleviate hunger in Indiana, one meal at a time. The fact that three major grocers in our marketing area are coming together for one common cause is reason for the entire state of Indiana to be proud and to support this most worthy effort.”

A fifth-generation Hoosier, Lugar is the U.S. Senate’s most senior Republican and longest-serving U.S. senator in Indiana history.

Marsh operates 97 Marsh Supermarkets and 4 O’Malia’s Food Markets in Indiana and Ohio, with 41 Indiana pharmacy locations.
