Wegmans Food Markets has become the Philadelphia Flyers’ Official Grocer, signing a multiyear deal that includes several unique activation points across the the professional hockey team's portfolio, including with the Flyers and Flyers Charities.
Under the partnership, Wegmans and the Flyers will create a new program, Food & Fridges, which will provide a new branded refrigerator and snacks to a local school where student athletes can get healthy snacks. The first school to take part in the program is Penn Wood High School, in Lansdowne, Pa.
Wegmans will also become the presenting partner for the Flyers Recess program, which rolled out last season. Flyers Recess is a free school assembly program that aims to help area children stay healthy and active while learning such life skills as teamwork and determination. Kids participate in an interactive, game show-style assembly where they practice hockey skills with Flyers-themed equipment donated by the Flyers organization. Last year, the program reached 6,500 students at 16 schools and will expand this season.
