Price Chopper Replaces Own Delivery Service in NY Capital Region

Price Chopper and Market 32 Supermarkets has replaced its Shops4U grocery delivery service with Instacart in New York’s Capital Region, although Shops4U will operate through Sunday, Dec. 2, to fulfill all orders that have already been placed. All Shops4U employees have been offered positions elsewhere within their respective Price Chopper/Market 32 stores, according to the company.

The grocer rolled out Instacart’s same-day delivery service earlier this month in Binghamton, Endicott, Chenango, Syracuse, N.Y.; Hartford, Conn.; and central Massachusetts.

To place an order for delivery, customers can visit shop.pricechopper.com or shop.market32.com. To encourage trial of the new service, Price Chopper/Market 32 is offering a $10 discount to new Instacart customers on their first order of $35 (or more) and waiving the delivery fee. The offer code for first-time users is PCDELIVERS. The promotion runs through Dec. 31.

Instacart’s app connects an intuitive ordering process to a waiting shopper/driver to products available at Price Chopper/Market 32, at the same prices customers would find in the stores, including most advertised sale prices. Instacart delivery fees vary based on the order size and desired delivery time, with the specific delivery fee for each order displayed during checkout before the order is placed.

“We know that our customers are busy and always looking for ways to save both time and money,” noted Glen Bradley, Price Chopper/Market 32’s group VP of marketing. “Offering fresh produce, the best meats and grocery staples delivered right to the doorstep at a good value is yet another way that we can serve our customers.”

Based in Schenectady, N.Y., the Golub Corp. owns and operates 134 Price Chopper and Market 32 grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Golub’s 20,000 employees collectively own more than 44 percent of the company’s privately held stock, making it one of the nation’s largest privately held corporations that’s predominantly employee-owned.
